Dr. (H.C) Swapan Kumar Ghosh

Dr. Ghosh joined Rourkela Steel Plant (Now SAIL) as a graduate engineer trainee/Junior engineer and Foreman & was there from 1st of June 1973 to 20th August 1979. He was earmarked for sending over to SMS-DEMAG/Germany for nine months of training. But he left that opportunity to become a self-made entrepreneur.
He left the job of the Rourkela steel plant & joined a few small-scale Foundries in Steel/Non–ferrous sector to assess their mode of working pattern. Dr. Ghosh underwent Entrepreneurial Development Programme jointly conducted by State Bank of India, cottage, and small-scale Industries/ Govt of West Bengal in 1980 & was adjudged the “Best Trainee”.
In the year 1983, he started his sole proprietary enterprise (Foundry unit) “Kharagpur Metal Reforming Industries” at Kharagpur, Paschim Medinipur, West Bengal. In 1991 he converted Kharagpur Metal Reforming Industries into a Private Limited company abbreviated as KMRIPL. Today KMRIPL is having two world-class Foundries which are approved as “CLASS A” Foundry as per IS 12117 of 1996 by RDSO / Lucknow/ Ministry of Railways / Govt of India since 1999.
Dr. Ghosh is a gold medallist first-class first in Bachelor of Engineering in Metallurgy from the University of Burdwan in 1971. He completed Industrial Engineering Diploma in 1976 from Rourkela Engineering college under Sambalpur University with a first-class A. From February 1972 to May 1973, he was associated with the National Metallurgical Laboratory– Jamshedpur under CSIR as a Junior Research fellow for his Doctoral research work at the University of Burdwan.
He passed an oppressive hardship during his childhood, lost his father at an early age of 4 years & under extreme poverty, carried out the schooling at his village. He got rewarded for his hard work, sincerity & dedication as he stood 8th in order of merit amongst 5.67Lakhs students in the School Final (class X) examination of West Bengal Board of Secondary Education in 1965 & was placed in 1st Division. He passed pre-university (class XI) in first division from the University of Calcutta in 1966.
Presently he regularly takes motivational sessions at various esteemed institutes in the entrepreneurial cell such as IIT-KGP, IIEST–Shibpur, FOSMI, CII, BNCCI, etc & various other management institutes of good reputation. His selfless positive attitude and “Altruistic Nature” of “Serving Above Self” is the main motto of his entrepreneurial journey from service life and he continues to percolate the same to his colleagues in every day’s work.
We should aim at catching stars i.e., to attain success to the maximum possible extent in the entrepreneurial journey, take calculated risks & not become complacent i.e., always march forward. We must try to increase our volume of exports in a big way that serves our mother India through earning of foreign exchange. We must & should commit to protecting our Mother Nature, so at KMRIPL we take care of every production process environment-friendly by investing in appropriate and efficient pollution control devices.
